Join a frontier AI research lab developing the next generation of foundation models. Apply your expertise in molecular biology to evaluate, improve, and benchmark the scientific reasoning capabilities of state-of-the-art AI systems.

1. Overview

A leading AI research lab is expanding its scientific evaluation team and is seeking Molecular Biology Experts to help build high-quality benchmarks for frontier AI models. In this role, you'll create realistic, research-driven biology tasks that challenge AI systems across molecular biology, genetics, genomics, cell biology, and related life sciences.

You'll design expert-level evaluation tasks, develop reference solutions, assess AI-generated responses, and identify where models fail in scientific reasoning, experimental interpretation, and biological accuracy. Your work will directly contribute to improving the scientific capabilities of next-generation AI models.

2. Key Responsibilities

Design scientific evaluation tasks: Create challenging molecular biology problems based on real research workflows, experimental methods, and scientific literature.

Develop reference solutions: Author high-quality scientific analyses, explanations, and evidence-based solutions that serve as expert ground truth.

Evaluate AI reasoning: Review model responses, identify factual inaccuracies, flawed biological reasoning, incorrect experimental interpretations, and unsupported conclusions.

Develop evaluation benchmarks: Build datasets, scoring rubrics, and validation criteria used to evaluate frontier AI models on complex biology tasks.

Collaborate with researchers: Work alongside AI researchers and life science experts to improve benchmark quality, scientific rigor, and evaluation consistency.

3. Core Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Genomics, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related life science discipline.
  • Experience conducting biological research in academia, industry, or research institutions.
  • Strong understanding of experimental design, molecular techniques, and interpretation of biological data.
  • Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and communicate complex biological concepts with clarity.
  • Familiarity with computational biology, bioinformatics, or data analysis tools is a plus.
  • Previous experience with AI evaluation, scientific benchmarking, or dataset creation is preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong scientific writing skills, and the ability to work independently on complex research problems.
  • Availability to work approximately 10-15 hours per week.

Contract and Payment Terms

  • You'll be engaged as an independent contractor; projects can be extended, shortened, or concluded based on need and performance.
  • Fully remote, completed on your own schedule.
  • Rates are shown upfront per project.
  • Payment is made on a per-project or scheduled basis for work delivered.
